Adolescent Positive Body Image:
Providing Ways to Improve Self Image

Teenagers live in a society where they receive confusing messages about what is considered beautiful. This is particularly true for developing girls. The desire for acceptance and love, mixed with the pressures to measure up to Hollywood's standards of beauty, too frequently leave young women with a distorted perception of body image which gets translated into low self esteem. During this confusing time, it is common to feel lonely, bitter, insecure, self-conscious, and envious.

Our bodies go with us everywhere and oftentimes for teenagers they wish it were otherwise. Not everyone understands this. Having a safe place to gather with others who do understand is imperative for healthy development. This support group is designed for young women, ages 13-18, to connect with others who are experiencing similar pressures. The group will assist young women regain confidence and control of their lives.

In order for long-term growth to occur, it is important to understand the underlying reasons contributing to one's body image. Connecting with others who understand will aid in building a positive self-image and acceptance of one's body. This support group will allow each individual the opportunity to embark on such an exploration in a safe, confidential, caring environment.

Young women, ages 13-18, who are struggling with body image and self-esteem are invited to join this group.

Accepting 5-8 members.

Each group session costs $35.
